Two Hundred and twenty one years ago our Forefathers put forth a Constitution that would govern this country and create a government model that would be copied but never duplicated with success. Today we stand at a crossroads, one side would have us turn into a socialist country and the other side would have us become a globalist country but neither side seems to realize that we are a republic that was conceived on revolutionary principles. That the individual is a self sufficient entity capable of doing and accomplishing great things.
One the one hand you have the Democrats who try and claim they are the party of Thomas Jefferson when in fact they are the product of the 1960's radicalism that appears to have forever changed our country. Thomas Jefferson would be leading a revolution against the current leaders in the Democratic Party. He would state that there is too much government control over and interference in our lives. The current Democratic Party believes that government is the solution to everything in regards to our lives and prosperity. They are wrong - our republic is there to hold the individual states together with a common thread. The thread being that we are Americans.
The Republicans with the nomination of John McCain appear to believe that globalism is the answer to our problems. They are wrong as well. History has proven that global economies to do not work. The fall of the Roman Empire is a perfect example of this. They not only fell apart because of political infighting but they proved that one nation cannot sustain the rest of the world. The Republicans have not had any fight in them since Newt Gingrich was removed as leader. It is a shame because the 1994 Republican Revolution could have lead us back down the path of Americanism instead it lead us to the Democrats' 2006 victory because of complacency and greed.
Benjamin Franklin was asked at the end of the Constitutional Convention,"Well, Doctor, what have we got -- a Republic or a Monarchy." Benjamin Franklin replied, "A Republic, if you can keep it."
I for one would like to keep this Republic which is why I encourage all of you to take time out today to read the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Then asked yourselves "are we truly headed in the right direction?"
